Buying a simple audio/video system is enough to have a problem with turning on the TV or home cinema. The TV, DVD, amplifier, satellite decoder- only with them you have four remote controls. If you have also the PLAYSTATION and a projector with the screen you have already seven remote controls. And there is also the light steering or other projectors…

In the 1930s we were able to buy first radio sets with remote control. However, these were sets on a wire. The first cordless steering devices appeared on the market in 1950s. Nowadays probably no one imagines having a TV- radio set without the remote control.

The problem is that the diversity of devices and the abundance of producers and solutions force us to have several remote controls. It’s very often that only one household member can turn on the system, most frequently it’s one of the teenage kids ;)

The only rescue is so called universal or intelligent remote control.

Universal remote controls, easier to use and cheaper, are able to ‘learn’ several dozen of codes copied from the original driver. We program the operation of our system under typical buttons that they normally have. With a little bit of luck and after dedicating quite a lot of time we are able to operate several devices. However, it’s necessary to turn them on in turn, turn on the right inputs to the right configuration of the system and remember what function each button has. They are better than the standard remote but still far from perfect.

Only the intelligent drivers provide a real comfort! These are the devices (mini computers) that have the LCD screen, basic buttons, function key, rocker button with OK for moving through MENU of individual devices.

These devices are programmed by the programmer- an integrator of audio/ video systems and home steering. Every single time the programm is written individualy, for the particular set and for the needs of the final user.

The final result is that when we take the remote in our hands the basic MENU appears on the screen.

If we want to watch the TV we touch the TV icon. The TV, decoder and amplituner turn on spontaneously. On the remote’s screen we can see the list of channels from the decoder or decoders. The channels can be chosen numerically or from the decoder’s MENU on the TV’s screen. You can even programm the icons of TV channels.

If you wish to turn on the home cinema, you should only touch the DVD icon. A dozen orders are given to our system by the remote control without your further interference. It will turn off the TV and decoder, turn on the projector, pull out the screen, turn on the DVD or BluRay, connect the amplituner to the right input, pull down the blinds and change the light in the interior into the cinema light (of course only if we have a light and blinds steering system.) The MENU of the DVD or BluRay disc will appear on the screen and we can start the showing.

The another value of such systems is the possibility of programming practically unlimited amount of ‘situations’, e.g. turn on the console or computer on the TV screen, listen to the radio, listen to the online radio, turn on the presentation of photos or turn on the bathroom or bedroom sound system. You can even steer the TV from another room or send the DVD signal from the living room to the TV that is in the bathroom or kitchen…

And the uncanny function- turn off everything !

The extraordinary value of such drivers is also the possibility of developing it to include so called extender that communicates with the remote control by using the radio waves. Only with the extender the signals are sent by the infrared. This is a little bit complicated but it allows to hide the devices in the furniture or even in separate interiors, and to fully operate them.

The range is very big, it works even through walls and you do not have to point the remote at the devices.

That is really the full comfort for which, unfortunatelly, we must pay several thousands. However all of those who decided on this do not regret this decision because those who have one remote control have the power. And the comfort!
